I’ve been thinking about this topic for a longtime. Like many baby boomers, I’ve faced the caregiving struggle. In my case long-distance, then up close for over 11 years. It changes your perspective on life. It also means making choices and decisions — few of which are easy — most of which have a long-tail on your family, your self, your emotions and your finances.
I am particularly interested in sharing with others the issues that crop up around finances — options and resources that are available, the emotional tug-of-war and some of the planning that can be done to make sure your kids don’t face the same issues.
Beyond my personal experience, I’ve spent many years working with people 50+ and their needs at AARP. Prior to that I worked with credit unions — organizations who I think generally do a great job of being consumer centered. Currently, I’m working with people interested in long-term care insurance and financial issues. And, I have a consulting business working with companies interested in better serving baby boomers and older people.
This blog isn’t about providing financial advice — you should talk with a professional about your own personal situation. It’s a place to share the problems, the challenges, the joys and the opportunities of aging — and what it means to our pocketbook. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you join in the discussion.
